XV Libertine No. 5 Proprietary Red Blend
Libertine is our ever-morphing, multi-vintage, multi-variety blend. In our modified solera system, we always hold back barrels of the previous edition and blend them forward into the newest one. It also acts as a sort of scrapbook of our history containing a piece of every vintage made at Reeve.
+ The new version builds on its layered past and that includes wine from the 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 vintages.
+ As always, this wine leads with the Sangiovese component and is supported by Cab Franc, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The Franc really plays a stronger role in Libertine No. 5 as the percentage went up significantly.
+ The predominant vintage in No. 5 is 2018, which was a relatively cool vintage. This certainly contributes to the wine’s beautiful structure. It is full but also has some great edges to it.
+ We really love the interplay between the tart red cherry notes of the Sangiovese with the round, velvety plum of the Merlot and the herbal notes of the Cab Franc. The Cabernet Sauvignon lends an overall front to back seriousness to the wine.
