2019 Thorn Ridge Vineyard Pinot Noir Magnum
Located on an east-facing slope a few miles from the Pacific Ocean, Thorn Ridge is an exceptional Pinot vineyard for making the type of elegant, driven Pinots that we prefer. It was planted in 1995 on an old apple orchard outside of Sebastopol and produces intense fruit from small clusters.
+ For this blend we use three clones of Pinot Noir; 115, 667 and Pommard.
+ Fermentation was done in small, two-ton, open top stainless fermenters and lasted 21 days. It was pressed in small Coquard basket press. The wine was aged for 15 months in new (33%) and neutral French Oak.
+ This Pinot neatly weaves together a savory note with a red and wild black fruit note on both the nose and palate. We get a red plum and blackberry vibe nestled into a wet rock sensation.
+ The 2019 vintage was a bit warmer than the very cool 2018 vintage, but certainly not overly hot. This resulted in a version of Thorn that is quite charming right out of the gate. Although with all our newly released wines, you will see a huge improvement with even just an hour in the decanter.
