2019 Fox Hill Vineyard Sangiovese
12 bottle limit
This marks our second Sangiovese from the Fox Hill Vineyard in Mendocino County. We made this one in a more traditional style than the 2018 with longer maceration and aging.
+ Fox Hill Vineyard sits southeast of the town on Ukiah on Mendocino’s Talmage Bench. It is farmed by our friends Sam Bilbro (Idlewild) and Evan Lewandowski (Ruth Lewandowski Wines) and it was planted to a plethora of Italian varieties.
+ Fox Hill Vineyard is planted on well-drained hillside soils possessing a high content of quartz, gravel and sandstone.
+ This Sangiovese was fermented in small 2-ton fermenters using 20% whole clusters. It had a long fermentation of 36 days.
+ Aged for 20 months in all neutral French oak barrels to soften the edges and create a harmonious balance between fruit and structure.
+ The 2019 vintage was notable for its ideal weather during late August and September that allowed for amazing flavor development in the vineyard. We avoided many of the heat spikes that marked other recent vintages.
+ Classic Sangiovese notes of dark cherry, plum and rose petal.
TECHNICAL NOTES: Alc. 14.3%, pH 3.55, g/L TA 5.4 [Hand-harvested on October 9]
