2018 Windsor Oaks Vineyard Sangiovese
We lost the 2017 vintage to smoke damage, but we are back with the 2018 version. Our mission to make reference-level Sangiovese in California continues.
+ The cool 2018 vintage allowed for long hang time and the development of elegant flavors. We get aromas of rose petals, black cherry and fresh tobacco.
+ This comes from a rocky knoll at the top of Windsor Oaks, located in the Chalk Hill AVA, with exposure to all sides.
+ There is a wonderful combination of adequate summer heat, cool mornings and evenings, and well-drained volcanic rock soils. We are generally able to achieve full ripeness at moderate levels of sugar with a gorgeous aromatic profile.
+ Given the elegant profile of this vintage, we aged the wine for only 16 months as opposed to the 20-24 months in the past.
+ The wine was aged in 450L and 500L puncheons with no new oak.
