2017 Petrichor Vineyard Syrah
Located high above Santa Rosa in the Fountaingrove AVA, the Petrichor Vineyard is lovingly owned and organically farmed by Margaret and Jim Foley–two of our favorite people in the business (and Band of Reeve members!). The vibrant and intense flavors in our 2017 Syrah are in part due to the volcanic soild, and the high density planting (1m. x1m.) which is designed to increase competition among vines. Aged 15 months in French oak with 50% whole cluster fermentaion, this is a no joke Syrah. Brightly aromatic, spicy and elegantly poised Syrah, showing off its cool-climate pedigree. A blend of high register red fruit and savory brush.
+ Farmed organically by viticulturalist Steve Matthiasson and grower extraordinaire Lee Martinelli Jr.
+ Petrichor Vineayrd is a high density vineyard planting (1 meter X 1 meter) designed to increase competition among vines and produce more intense flavors.
+ The vineyard is composed primarily of volcanic soils and sits in the Mayacamas Mountain Range. It is cooled by cool air coming off of the Russian River Valley below.
+ We fermented in a single two-ton open top fermenter with 50% whole cluster fermentation.
+ The wine was aged for 15 months in only used French oak and then 8 months in bottle prior to release.
