2017 Ascona Vineyard Pinot Noir
The Ascona Vineyard is perched high in the Santa Cruz Mountains at 2300 foot elevation and only about 10 miles from the Pacific Ocean. This site produces aromatic wines with a fine-toothed structure.
+ Ancient highly decomposed soils of sandstone, limestone, and shale. The texture of which feels almost sandy.
+ Fermented in small open top stainless steel and punched down daily by hand with the inclusion of 15% whole cluster.
+ Aged for 16 months in mostly used French Oak barrels of which 15% were new.
+ Pinot Noir clones selected for this blend are Mt Eden, 115 and Pommard.
+ We always find this wine to have a great mélange of red and purple fruits, kind of like a classy fruit punch, combined with sandlewood and musky forest floor.
