2016 Anderson Valley Riesling
Hailing from three vineyards in the deep end of Anderson Valley, our 2016 Anderson Valley Riesling is as our friend Pete would say, “a ripper.”
The farthest reaches of the valley are known for their cool, almost borderline, growing season. The wines are known to be edgier, more tensile, more coiled. This Riesling is no different. Its structure runs through the middle of it like a livewire, crackling with energy. On that frame sits a blend of pure orchard fruits like apples and pears with a tart twist of lemon.
Although the wine presents itself as very dry, in actuality there is a small amount of residual sugar that balances its
vibrancy. It gives some textural qualities that prevent the wine from being too linear. In short it gives balance to the wine. Importantly, this will also make the wine a perfect compliment to spicy Thai and Vietnamese food.
This wine includes fruit from our prized Vonarburg Vineyard which sits next to Roederer’s sparkling wine facility and is meticulously farmed by the owner Norman Kobler. Norman is widely considered one of the best farmers in the valley and this tiny vineyard is his baby.
It will be intriguing to watch this wine develop. Given its overall harmony and structure, I suspect it will age gracefully for 5-10 years, at least, if stored well.
