2016 Anderson Valley Pinot Noir

2016 Anderson Valley Pinot Noir

The 2016 Reeve Anderson Valley Pinot is a testament to the cool, nuanced flavors of the “Deep End” of the valley, past Philo. This area, when farmed well, delivers the holy grail of Pinot Noir that few places can—wines exhibiting both verve and intense depth, and power without extra weight.  As with previous vintages, this wine was sourced primarily from two vineyards in the Deep End called Broken Leg and Tanbark Mill.

All of the lots included in this wine were fermented in small 2-ton fermenters, giving us a fine palette of blending components with which to work. We had long cool ferments that lasted up to 28 days with hand-punchdowns 1-2 times per day. The wine was aged in a mix of French Oak coopers with 20% new, 20% once used, and the remaining 60% were neutral.

The 2016 vintage represented the beginning of the end of the drought. We received relatively normal spring rainfall in the Anderson Valley.  Temperatures and crop quantities were both moderate. A beautiful August and early September brought in clean and brightly focused fruit.
