2015 Sonoma Coast Mirama Pinot Noir
Our Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir comes from our first vintage produced at Reeve Wines. However, Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir is not a new endeavor for us. We have been making elegant Pinots from the region for over 15 years, seeking out cool hillside sites that allow for the charming, ethereal style we are known for.
The Mirama is a blend of three highly acclaimed vineyards in the Sonoma Coast coming from the Sebastopol Hills and Occidental sections of the AVA. Due to considerations for other high-caliber producers sourcing these same vineyards, we are not permitted to divulge their names on non-single vineyard bottles wines. But trust us, they’re amazing!
This is a late release for Pinot Noir. One of the unique things about this wine is the aging process, which lasted 30 months in barrel. The 2015 vintage, while extremely low in yields, presented us with plenty of depth, verve, and the backbone to allow additional aging time. Time, as if often does in many facets of life, has allowed edges to soften and additional nuance to emerge.
One of the central charms of Mirama is evident at first smell; an intoxicating perfume of crushed berries, cedar, damp earth, and morning dew. It’s one of those wines where we love to get lost in the scent. In the mouth, it has soft mellowed edges, “woodsiness”, and fine texture—but also a good pop of braised rhubarb to keep it lively.
The word Mirama comes from two places. It was Noah and Kelly's favorite (now unfortunately closed) Chinese restaurant when they lived in Paris. It also can be loosely construed to translate to “looking for love.”
